"This Is"
| 1. | Shadow | Play | Shadow
You walk the streets of downtown at night and you want to get away from me.
There’s no chance of walking faster than me, I’m behind you all the time. You’re walking’ pretty fast, but I’m keeping up, You’re talking pretty loud but I can hear you now. There ain’t no secrets you can keep from me Because I hear every word you’ve got to say. I’m Your Shadow You get your friends so you can talk to them, but I’m your greatest fear. You can’t conquer me or defeat me now, because I’m everywhere you go. I’ve got your walk, I’m on the prowl again, and you’re wondering where to run. You walk into the restaurant and I’m behind you all the time. I’m Your Shadow You saw me in your dream last night when I kissed your pretty face. And now your running, running far from here, because you think this is a race. But what you don’t seem to get from me is that you’ll never get away. Cause’ I’m one step ahead of you and I’m one step right behind. I’m Your Shadow |

This was the first song written to appear on "This Is". It is based on a jam I had with Brad Foster. As this was written many years ago, the lyrics are coming from a differnt place (I was much younger). The music is unique and has a great groove. It has always been great fun to play. |

| 2. | My Angel | Play | My Angel
I met her with the heart of a child. Like a schoolboy lost in the wild.
I took just one look in her eyes and I knew I could spend my forever with her. The slightest little touch of her skin could make you shiver like it was a crime. With a glimpse of that cute little grin I knew I’d hold on till the end of time. My Soul is empty and I‘m lost without her. She said forever And now I’ll never forget. My Angel she said goodbye My Angel flew up in the sky My Angel she said goodbye Oh why oh why. She knew that I carried her torch. I’d run across the world and back again. I savored the taste of her lips. What I wouldn’t do to get it back again. She used to look far into the sky; the memory makes me feel like I could fly. And sometimes I see her walking past me, but I know it’s just my mind playing tricks on me. My Soul is empty and I‘m lost without her. She said forever And now I’ll never forget. My Angel she said goodbye My Angel flew up in the sky My Angel she said goodbye Oh why oh why. And now my heart has closed its doors with her love trapped tightly inside. The memory of our time together will have to take the place of forever. I know if she had the choice she’d call me with her soft-spoken voice. She had to leave and go far away, but now I know that she just couldn’t stay. |

This song was an early entry towards "This Is". Although the song is about a tortured soul in love with a woman that has died, it is an upbeat song. This song was purely from my imagination and there is no autobiographical content at all.
The solo in the middle is not an electric guitar but a Tenor Saxophone played through distortion and delay. |

| 3. | Seductive Killer | Play | Seductive Killer
Blackness fills the air this evening. A young Girl is dressed for deceiving.
She sprays the scent of flowers, her pray will whither in hours. A tall thin beauty she’s evil. A mark per night – she lives with this credo. Her lips painted thick with desire, she’ll leave them burning in fire. Her body’s tight and it curves. She breaths fire and swerves. Her legs slither into a sport scar, she won’t need to go far. This night she’ll go to a party wearing her heals and she’s nasty. A subtle look round the room, now she’s done – this is doom. This girl’s a killer and she’ll take you for a ride. This girl’s a devil and she’ll burn you still alive This girl’s a killer and she’ll take you for a ride. Kissing and making love is a way to get inside. Her tongue now licking her glass. A martini bumped by her pass. A young man tapped by her elbow. His eyes lost in her shadow. He follows and offers anew one, no idea what she’s done. She strokes his arm and she whispers, he’s told tonight he’ll be hers. And he’ll wake up tomorrow, he won’t know what she’s done. She’s taken a ride again and she sent him to kingdom come. She’s alive again and she’s set the world on fire. On the hunt again and she’ll take it one step higher. This girl’s a killer and she’ll take you for a ride. This girl’s a devil and she’ll burn you still alive This girl’s a killer and she’ll take you for a ride. Kissing and making love is a way to get inside. Blackness fills the air this evening. A young Girl is dressed for deceiving. She sprays the scent of flowers, her pray will whither in hours. |

This song was of the most recent to be written for "This Is". It depicts a story about a girl who uses the art of seduction as a weapon against men. This was a song where I tried to test myself. I wanted to write a lyric that was based purely on fiction and something that I had no opinion of and no emotional interest in. I am very pleased with the way it turned out. The third verse is one of my favorites from "This Is". |

| 4. | Three Times Around The World | Play | Three Times Around The World
It’s been four months, did you forget?
Tonight I leave in a blackened sky You said you’d be here That’s why I couldn’t say goodbye I wish I could look again Just one more minute to feel To hold your hand and dance a while Step on your toes and cry This time I’ll go Three times around the world Next time I’ll know Hold your hand and don’t let go OH… You could have turned your head Looked at the walls instead Go on and show me your smile Or even tell me you’ll try (Bridge) This time I’ll go Three times around the world Next time I’ll know Take your hand and don’t let go OH… This time I’ll go Three times around the world Next time I’ll know Take your hand and don’t let go OH… |

This was one of three songs written for my wife (Dream and Memory of a Kiss are the other two) on "This Is". This one is different in that it is not a blatant love song, but there are some metaphors that allude to romance. What is present is this incredible promise of the world, three times over... if given the chance. |

| 5. | The Drummer | Play | The Drummer
The drummer he sat down today, forgotten that he had to play.
The band began knowing there time had come. He left them though he didn’t know the clouds got dark and he had to go. The band went on now knowing their time had come. Without a beat there is no song. No rhyme or rhythm to hum along. Without the bang there is no tune. So the lights begin to dim too soon. Not knowing if the time was right he took off and without a fight. They stopped the show and called off everyone. He walked the night, the streets were black, inside he knew he’d never be back. He stepped in time to a beat he’d never done. Without a beat there is no song. No rhyme or rhythm to hum along. Without the bang there is no tune. So the lights begin to dim too soon. The drummer he sat down today. Forgotten that he had to play. The band began knowing that he was done. No lights no sounds, he couldn’t move. The beat was dying and he couldn’t groove. The fog was filling in a blacked out moon and the darkest sighs narrowed down to one. |

This song can be heard as a simple rock song about a Drummer and his role within "a band". It can also be heard, as it was written, as a song about a man's life and how one day the heartbeat (the drummer) grows slow and old. The lyric at the end "the darkest sighs narrow down to one" are the inevitable end that everyone faces. Although these lyrics seem a little morbid, the song is an energetic and catchy one.
This song was written somewhere in the Mediterranean on an extremely rocky cruise ship while on my honeymoon. It was probably around three in the morning and my wife was sound asleep. Although it never occurred to me, there must be a connection with being on that crazy ship and my idea of death! As a nice treat, that same cruise line on the same run less than a year later ended up sinking a ship off the coast of Santorini!!! |

| 6. | Late At Night | Play | Late At Night
There it is just as clear as today my beautiful smile that you stole away.
Another life that I remember tonight, watching the darkness turn into light. Hidden beneath that silly grin that fights away all that hurts within. The painful sound that I hear inside, your crackling voice gets pushed aside. It’s late night and I’m wondering if I should call you or go back to sleep. It’s late at night and I’m wondering what to do. It’s late night and I’m wondering if I should call you or go back to sleep. It’s late at night, please someone tell me what to do. I walk around asleep in the day, only wishing all these thoughts away. Looking at faces that have passed me by, I wish to leave all that hurts behind. I turn inside to my waking dreams, the ones that seem to scream so loud. My lonely world is a way of life, but is that the way you want me to be? It’s late night and I’m wondering if I should call you or go back to sleep. It’s late at night and I’m wondering what to do. It’s late night and I’m wondering if I should call you or go back to sleep. It’s late at night, please someone tell me what to do. Maybe I’ll never feel you now, or never see you again to speak these words. Somewhere way down deep in mind you may hold these thoughts that I put inside. Innocence is the soft man’s pain, only to be used again and again. And sweetness is a crying shame, it was never meant to be used for pain. It’s late night and I’m wondering if I should call you or go back to sleep. It’s late at night and I’m wondering what to do. It’s late night and I’m wondering if I should call you or go back to sleep. It’s late at night, please someone tell me what to do. |

This is an early song that deals with unrequited love. Would a phone call make a difference or would it make things worse? Many people have spent the hours at night agonizing over this decision. |

| 7. | Dream | Play | Dream
Wake up all over again just to find I lost a day.
Thinking of what it might be like just to walk another way. Doesn’t seem to matter at all that I have nowhere I need to be. It just doesn’t seem right unless you’re sitting here with me. I don’t need to dream when I have you here with me. I don’t want to dream when you’re lying next to me. I don’t need to dream when I have you here with me. Why would I want to dream if you just stay with me. Driving along the road where I drove the day before. Doesn’t seem to matter where I end up now any more. I sing out a song that I swear I never sang before. It’s as if I spent the night sleeping, sleeping on my floor. I don’t need to dream when I have you here with me. I don’t want to dream when you’re lying next to me. I don’t need to dream when I have you here with me. Why would I want to dream if you just stay with me. What if the world stopped or what if it just stood still. What if the daylight stopped and left me in the dark. What if the world stopped or what if it just stood still. What if the nighttime dropped and left me up all day. Walking in circles counting hours till you’re here. I’m talking in riddles; I keep looking in the mirror. What will I say and really what am I to do? I’m thinking of stories that I’d love to share with you. I don’t need to dream when I have you here with me I don’t want to dream when you’re lying next to me I don’t need to dream when I have you here with me Why would I want to dream if you just stay with me |

Dream was one of three songs written for my wife (Three Times around the world and Memory of a Kiss were the others) on "This Is".. This is a love song that basically says you are my life. Hopefully many people out there know what it means to be so in love that when you are apart, all you can do is think about each other. |

| 8. | The Song That Can't Be Sung | Play | The Song That Can't Be Sung
The Song that can’t be Sung
I saw a boy, he tried to smile. Swimming through the river in his eye. He walked through the streets that had frozen still. He’s looking for a warm place to cry. I saw a girl outside in the rain. Her clothes were torn but they were dry. She waved down a taxi to get inside. The one she would take to die. Somebody tell me where did we go. Explain the useless things we have become. Walk me down the hallway and sit me in a chair Sing me the song that can’t be sung. I saw a mother alive in her bed. They left her there, left her there for dead. And nobody knows that she can’t abide. She’s locked her soul, locked it deep inside. I saw a man who gasped for air. Surrounded by this world that didn’t care. He raised his arms begging to stay alive. But his heart was lost and could never survive. Somebody tell me where did we go. Explain the useless things we have become. Walk me down the hallway and sit me in a chair Sing me the song that can’t be sung I saw a boy, he tried to smile. Swimming through the river in his eye. He walked through the streets that had frozen still. He’s singing the song that can’t be sung. Singing the song that can’t be sung. |

This song is an expression of disgust with what we have let the world become. While writing this song I thought of hurricane Katrina and the many poverty stricken people that suffered like animals, senseless wars that are killing innocent people (Iraq in particular), and the disgusting way most homeless people are treated. Although I didn't write those stories in particular, I tried writing from a natural human compassion that should exist in everyone (at least at some level).
Before finishing the song, the ending left me feeling depressed and ashamed of what we have become. But luckily with the change of a few words, the song gives us a glimmer of hope. When the boy is "singing the song that can't be sung", we are left with an idea that maybe we can achieve the impossible. |

| 9. | An Ode To A Crazy Girl | Play | An Ode To A Crazy Girl
You like to look at me and I like to turn away.
You want to go outside, I want to stay and play. You put your best dress on and I’ll wear my old blue jeans. You go and play with the girls and I’ll stay and play guitar. And so you want me, to be like you. And so you want me. I ask you to dinner but your watching your TV. Let’s see a movie, no your tired and in bed. I wanna’ sing out loud, you like it quiet instead. I wanna’ be left alone but you won’t let me be And so you want me, to be like you. And so you want me. So you say… Meet me in the middle you crazy crazy girl. Can’t you see that you’re driving me mad? Meet me in the middle you crazy crazy girl. Oh come on you know I love you. Just like a broken record I listen to you over again. Whispering in my ear you tell you want me to make love again. Hold me, your turning me upside down again. Here we go, I ask you one more time again… Meet me in the middle you crazy crazy girl. Can’t you see that you’re driving me mad? Meet me in the middle you crazy crazy girl. Oh come on you know I love you. |

This tune is about the little things that drive a couple crazy! Agreeing is not always easy. The lyrics are probably the most simple of the Album. I do have to say that "the bridge" (Just like a broken record I listen to you over again...) is one of my favorite moments on "This Is". |

| 10. | The Thief | Play | The Thief
The Thief he walks into the store. He waves his weapon and he drops them to the floor.
He’s got no money he’s got no food. Deep inside he feels this isn’t crude. He spent the last three months out on the street. Sick and tired, the man just wants to eat. They looked away and they’d pretend he wasn’t there. This is his life, what should he do, this isn’t fair. Where will you run to when you’re all washed up? Where will you run to when you’re scared? Where will you run to when you’re all washed up? Where will you run to when you’re scared? He grabs the bag, he takes the money, he’s out the door. He looks inside to realize he needs more. This is the trap and here’s the cycle once again. This time he’s tired, he’s hiding out; he’ll count to ten. Better wait till the sun goes down tonight. If he gets caught, he’s got nothing left to fight. The sound of noise, the sound of cars is spinning by. He’s in a hole crunched up, scared of being found. Where will you run to when you’re all washed up? Where will you run to when you’re scared? Where will you run to when you’re all washed up? Where will you run to when you’re scared? He had a wife, he has a kid. Had a job, she threw him out, he lost his lid. Can’t remember how it was. Looking out and looking blind, his head’s a fuzz. In a minute he’d turn around. He needs some time, he needs a break and he’d be found. They’d walk on by and turn in shame. They see a bum, they see a loser, he’s to blame. Where will you run to when you’re all washed up? Where will you run to when you’re scared? Where will you run to when you’re all washed up? Where will you run to when you’re scared? |

The idea of good and bad is not so clear to me. There are many good people in this world forced to do bad things to sustain themselves. The word bad is also relative to the situation. It's a crazy world out there and it is easy for us to sit back and judge other people. Unfortunately it is a whole different story, when your back is against the wall, you're hungry, you're tired, you're scared, and you have nowhere to go. This is the story I was after. |

| 11. | Memory of a Kiss | Play | Memory of a Kiss
You looked in my eyes and I looked away, the fear of desire.
Trembling inside as I wanted you so, my fingers falling again. The curls of your hair brushed against my skin. I held you far too close. The walls staring scared as my world caved in. I took you one step further within Did you ask or did I try. Did I want it and did you cry? My memory has escaped me. My memory… Of your kiss. We were young and fallen far too in love, your lips painted red. Smearing the circles spinning around in my head. I’d fallen dizzy into my bed. Counting in a rhythm I felt in my heart. You held me with a vision you wanted to start. I told you that I loved you and I didn’t fall apart. I told you that I loved you I was lost in my heart. Did you ask or did I try. Did I want it and did you cry? My memory has escaped me. My memory… Of your kiss. Just a memory of your kiss. |

This is one of three songs written for my wife (Three Times around The World and Dream are the others) on "This Is". It actually creates a story from a single moment in time. There is a kiss that marks a significant change in someone’s life. The kiss that no longer says you're great and I like you allot, but rather I love you and can't see myself without you beside me forever. It is my hope that everyone finds that kiss in their life. This is the story of mine. |
This is a cd I did in 2007. I am playing all instruments and singing. All songs were written by me. I'm really proud of it and have the whole thing hear for you to listen to. If you like any of it, please feel free to purchase a song or two from itunes or even order a copy of the cd from cdbaby.
